The Jefferson County Medical Examiner Office provides vital forensic services to the county. The move to a new, state-of-the-art, $30 million complex represented a crucial modernization project. This replaced a hopelessly small, constrained office. Business Interiors was tasked with implementing Jefferson County Medical Examiner Office furniture solutions that matched the precision, efficiency, and quiet dignity of the facility’s demanding operations.
BI partnered closely with the project team, including Poole & Company and Doster Construction. This partnership ensured the furniture selections supported both the highly technical needs and the sensitive requirements of the administrative spaces. This was certainly not an everyday office furniture project.
Our scope encompassed a wide range of environments, such as 15 private offices, 37 workstations, 2 conference rooms, 1 training room, the lobby, and the break room. Crucially, work extended to highly specialized areas, so we had to consider unique environments like autopsy rooms, coolers, and X-ray rooms where drains are in the floor and stainless steel tables reside.
We chose design finishes to be timeless and light. This was a deliberate choice to bring peace and comfort to the staff working in difficult circumstances. All private offices featured U-shaped desks and two guest chairs, thus maximizing functionality. A unique finish differentiated the Chief Coroner’s office, distinguishing the space.
The approach centered on providing professional, high-performance furnishings across the complex. Business Interiors provided durable, professional office furniture, ensuring a quiet, dignified atmosphere essential for sensitive consultations and staff focus. The team also outfitted the specialized specimen storage room with mobile high-density storage shelving, maximizing efficiency and organization in a critical zone. We furnished the lobby, break room, and training room, and added to the collaborative experience with furniture for the new outdoor patio.
The modern, timeless architecture with beautiful wood ceilings in the open areas creates a sophisticated and appropriate environment for the facility’s critical mission. Ultimately, Business Interiors provided the functional foundations, ensuring the facility offers both the professional capability the staff requires and the dignified environment the public expects.
